Many pioneering industries that took name in Kerala and beyond the shores have anchored in the Park. The transformation brought to the sleepy seaside village of Thumba in Thiruvananthapuram was dramatic in all accounts. Majority of the employees are womenfolk from the nearby villages, who have less exposure to formal education. The job in garment manufacturing units helped many to make ends meet. Now, there are more than 3,500 people from different parts of India are directly employed in various companies functioning in the Park. Companies provide subsidized transportation facilities for those who commute everyday for work, and the working women’s hostel in the Park can accommodate up to 800 people, which is beneficial for women employees from other parts of our country.
